2012 Invitation Lyrics |

|
To this valley we hope you are coming We will welcome you in true Prairie style For they say Loyalists at Hotel Fort Garry Will be a conference very worthwhile.
From the East and the West you’ll be coming You will love our great sites and kind smiles We will swat huge mosquitoes for you And laugh with you all the while.
Come and tour at the lower Fort Garry Under skies of deep azure blue And remember the Red River Settlers Some of whom were Loyalists too. |
Our big skies and vast prairie vistas Are well known across this great land, But we also have a desert and forests and many lakes with lovely white sand.
From your room you will soon be agazing At the Forks and the rivers that meet The Conference will be so amazing You will want to stay for a week!
Conference at the Confluence will be so engaging We will welcome friends both old and new And we hope all the plans we have hewn Are enough to entice you next June! |

Little Britain began in the 1820's, when six former Hudson's Bay Company servants and their families, all related by blood or marriage, settled on narrow river lots in the area between Lower Fort Garry and Lockport. Why “Little Britain”? River lots on the east and west side of the Red River between Lower Fort Garry and St. Andrew’s rapids (now Lockport) were settled by mostly English, Orkney, and Scottish families and hence dubbed “Little Britain”.. |

at the Manitoba Museum Originally
built in England in 1968, the Nonsuch was a replica of the
original ship, whose 1668 voyage led to the founding of the Hudson's Bay
Company. HBC commissioned the replica as a celebration of the company's 300th anniversary in 1970, and as a gift to the Province of Manitoba for its 100th anniversary. Set amid the waterfront of 17th century England in the Museum, the original two-masted ketch Nonsuch sailed into Hudson Bay in search of furs. In 1670, two years after the initial voyage of the Nonsuch, the Hudson's Bay Company was formed and the famed little ship was instrumental in establishing commerce in western Canada.
